Conductor: Brian Sparks is a musician of international distinction whose venues include the American Academy in Rome, the Manoel Theatre in Valletta, Malta, the Instituto de Bellas Artes in Morellia, Mexico and Octobersky Hall, St. Petersburg, Russia. He has performed with the New York Pops, the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra, the Lakewood Philharmonic, Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, and the Rhode Island Philharmonic.
A native of California, he is formerly on the faculty of the University of California at Irvine, Chapman University, as conductor of the Wind Ensemble, Loma Linda University and East Los Angeles College as Director of Bands and Orchestras.
Presently, Brian is the conductor and founder of the recently formed Ocean State Winds, No Strings Attached, presenting an innovative dramatized concert entitled - Mozart in America. He has also been the Director of the Hartford Festival Orchestra since 1997, performing what the National Endowment on the Arts calls a "must see event" - Guitar Under the Stars with the Dan Salazar Ensemble. A former conductor of the U.S. Coast Guard Chamber Players, he is now on the music faculty at Brown University and the University of Rhode Island. Brian has guest- conducted the United States Coast Guard Band, the United States Military Academy Band, Central Connecticut University Wind Ensemble, and the New Haven Wind Symphony.
Stage Director: William Halpin has been the stage director for the opera department and professor of flute at the Dublin Institute of Technology Conservatory of Music and Drama, since 1980. During that time, he has been involved in many of the Conservatory's major events.
In January 1996 he produced and directed the very successful gala concert of the combined orchestras of the DIT Conservatory of Music and the Royal Irish Academy of Music, which took place in the National Concert Hall.
In 1999 he was assistant stage director to Franz Paul Decker for the performance in the National Concert Hall of Ravel's opera L'Enfant et le Sortileges.
In November 2001 Willy produced and directed the very successful "Ford" Opera Gala in the National Concert Hall.
Master of Ceremonies: Enzo Boscarino graduated from Istituto G. Lombardo Radice, Catania, Italy, with a degree in Elementary Education. It was in Italy that Enzo started to sing as a young boy leading the choruses in singing many Gregorian Chants in church. Later he learned to play the guitar and has been playing and singing ever since. He also has appeared on TV commercials and has recorded a C.D. in 1999 with his wife Maryanne.
In 1977, Enzo was the winner of a Bronze medal for the USA in the New England States Foil Competition in Waterbury, CT. Not only did he win a Bronze medal but he also coached the Conard Traveling Fencing Team from September of 1976 to June of 1986.
Enzo also conducted advanced research on the Spanish Novel of 1898 and the Spanish festival of El Encierro de los Sanfermines, in Pamplona, Spain, where he ran with the bulls. He is presently employed by Central Connecticut State University as an adjunct professor of Italian and Spanish and has been a translator for many prestigious organizations, including Andrea Bocelli’s USA tour with the Hartford Symphony.
Enzo has performed in concert at the Scuola Francesca in Catania, Italy and Madrid, Spain, plus at The Tabernacle in Oak Bluffs, on Martha’s Vineyard. He has also been a featured performer at Mamma Leone in NYC and has participated in Italian Festivals in Buffalo and Olean, N.Y., as well as Hartford, CT. In Hartford, Enzo is well known for his performances in First Night of Hartford.
Because of his many talents The Martha’s Vineyard Gazette described him as ‘...a Renaissance Man.’
